The Uttar Pradesh Department of Health has made it mandatory for all private hospitals in the district to publish pictures and phone numbers of doctors working there.
These details should be posted where patients and their companions can easily see them.
In addition, hospitals must also post information about the specialty of emergency physicians along with their phone numbers on the bulletin board.
Additional Chief Medical Officer Dr AP Singh said: “By putting doctors’ contact details, patients will be able to know that qualified doctors are treating them. Also, they will know who to contact in case of emergency. This will also help patients. health officials during hospital inspections.”
He said that from now on, hospitals must keep a license issued by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) which must be displayed during inspection. The move came after the health department, in raids, found several unqualified doctors, paramedics and nurses working in the hospitals.
Officials said there were about 350 licensed hospitals and nursing homes in the city.
During raids by the health department in 18 hospitals, abnormalities were found in 10 hospitals and notices were served on them.
The most frequent anomaly was the absence of emergency physicians from the hospital.
In three private hospitals, paramedics and nurses were not trained.
Apart from this, a visit to two hospitals in Hardoi Road revealed that the doctors were not qualified to practice modern medicine.
They had BHMS and BAMS degrees.
Dr AP Singh said: “We are waging a special campaign against hospitals run by unqualified staff. Strict action will be taken against those who engage in this. FIRs will also be filed against them.”
