UP Police Busts Sextortion Racket, five outfits
Uttar Pradesh police on Friday (October 23rd) denounced a sextortion racket in Ghaziabad. Five people were arrested in this connection. The accused used an international adult website and a “Stripchat” social network to blackmail people.
Police Superintendent Nipun Agarwal informed that the accused used nude video clips to lure people and extort money. They had eight bank accounts, which have now been seized, Hindustan times reported.
He added that in one case ₹ 80 lakh were extorted from a victim. The gang used to extort businessmen and senior executives after blackmailing them with sex chat pictures and videos. They have targeted around 200 people over the past two years and extorted ₹ 22 crore from them.
The veil was lifted on the gang after a police team from Rajkot in Gujarat visited Ghaziabad in connection with a fraud and honey trap case. A few weeks ago, a businessman from Rajkot complained that an accountant at his company had siphoned off 80 lakh from the company account.
Similar incident in Mumbai
Earlier this week, a similar incident was reported in Mumbai, where police dismantled a sex tourism racket and grabbed the two main pivots, a woman and her partner, from the airport. The first was arrested last year under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act.
According to the report, the department had been informed of a trip to Goa planned by the accused. Some of the policemen posed as clients, for whom the woman organized two girls.
“A trap was set at the airport where the three girls encountered an officer and others who acted as decoy clients. Money and a plane ticket were exchanged; on a signal received from they, the team apprehended the three women, ”police said.
The woman confessed to her crime and was brought before a court, which ordered her custody.
