South Africa: Sassa advises beneficiaries to keep verifying their details to avoid scammers

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in Mpumalanga advises R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant recipients to keep checking their details, to ensure they are still correct to avoid scammers .

The agency released the statement after its customer service unit received numerous calls from beneficiaries complaining that their contacts had been changed.

“Recipients should note that there is a circulating WhatsApp message where scammers offer to help applicants apply. By giving personal information to strangers, they can change contact details on behalf of the applicant.

“The agency advises R350 grant recipients to apply themselves or ask someone they trust and have access to see or visit them,” SASSA said.

He reminded that the SASSA official customer service cannot change the contact details of the beneficiaries without their request.
