Shai Hope returns as West Indies name provisional test team for South Africa series
St. John’s [Antigua], Jun 4 (ANI): The Cricket West Indies (CWI) selection panel on Friday named a provisional 17-man squad for the next round of testing against South Africa.
The team is expected to be further reduced to 13 official members on Monday.
Fast pitcher Chemar Holder was unavailable due to injury, while 19-year-old fast pitcher Jayden Seales is a first inclusion in the West Indies provisional squad for a series of tests.
“The coaches also revealed that four (4) other fast young bowlers Keon Harding, Preston McSween, Marquino Mindley and Nial Smith will remain in St. Lucia to help the test team with their preparations,” the CWI said in a statement. .
This will be South Africans’ first bilateral tour of the Caribbean since 2010, followed by a tri-series in 2016 also featuring Australia.
The tour, which was scheduled to be rescheduled from 2020, will feature two test matches and five T20s, from June 10 to July 3 this year in Saint Lucia at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground and in Granada at the National Cricket Stadium, respectively.
In their last bilateral meeting in the Windies in 2010, South Africa won all three Test Series matches 2-0 (the second match was drawn) and produced a white ball sweep, winning the T20 and ODI series 2-0 and 5-0 respectively.
