Sassa Mpumalanga advises R350 social relief grant recipients to keep checking their details to ensure they are still correct, to avoid scammers.
The agency released the statement after its customer service unit received numerous calls from beneficiaries complaining that their contacts had been changed.

“Recipients should note that there is a circulating WhatsApp message with which the scammers offer to help applicants with their applications. By giving up personal information to strangers, they are able to change contact details on behalf of the applicant.
“The agency advises R350 grant recipients to apply themselves or ask someone they trust,” Sassa said.
Sassa reiterated that its official customer service cannot change recipient details without their request.
“The change of contact details process requires the ID number of the beneficiary, and after that, the beneficiary receives an OTP number on his mobile phone. The manager will ask the OTP who will allow him to update his details”, said the agency.
