Nationalities seeking a second citizenship of this region include Lebanese, Syrians and Indians.

“For UAE and GCC residents looking for better visa-free travel options, the most popular citizenship-by-investment programs are Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Sainte -Lucie, Grenada with an E2 and Vanuatu investor visa. Applicants can apply remotely and recent updates during Covid-19 have made these countries more attractive and affordable for families, ”said David Regueiro, COO of RIF Trust and Latitude.

Alternatively, UAE and GCC residents looking to relocate to Europe or expand their business to a country with strong healthcare systems and top-notch real estate investment opportunities choose Maltese citizenship, as it offers a path to European citizenship for wealthy people and their families, he said.

Most popular programs

Veronica Cotdemiey, CEO of Citizenship by Invest, said that the Saint Kitts and Nevis citizenship by investment program is the most sought after in this region.

“Applicants already have references from friends or family members who hold the citizenship of Saint Kitts and Nevis, which reassures them to choose this program,” she said, adding that Grenada is one of the most sought after programs and the only passport that offers visas to China for free.

Cotdemiey said Vanuatu, which is a relatively new fast-track citizenship program, is also growing in popularity.

She added that among European countries with residency programs, Portugal was the most popular. “The reason is simple. Portugal offers the most cost-effective program to eventually acquire European Union citizenship without ever residing in Portugal. UAE investors acquire Portuguese residence with long term vision. After five years of residence, they could apply for citizenship. “

David Regueiro said the naturalization of Malta’s Outstanding Investors provides the highest visa-free access to new immigrants from around 186 countries and also allows them to live and work anywhere in the European Union as a European citizen.

After European citizenship, the five Caribbean citizenship by investment programs offer the best visa-free access. Saint Kitts and Nevis offers the highest number of countries with 157, followed by Antigua and Barbuda with 151 countries, Saint Lucia with 146 countries, Grenada with 144 countries and, finally, Dominica with 143 countries.

Top nationalities opting for migration

Veronica Cotdemiey said the main nationalities seeking second citizenship from this region are Lebanese, Syrians, Libyans, Yemenis, Indians, Iraqis and Egyptians.

Regueiro said that many expatriates living in the UAE and GCC with “weaker passports” were seeking second citizenship through investments, which gave them greater flexibility to travel without a visa when traveling for leisure or were looking to expand their activities outside of the GCC.
