Contact tracing of Monkeypox is now carried out by Scottish health authorities.

Public Health Scotland (PHS) announced its decision after a rare case of infection was spotted in England on Saturday May 14.

In this document from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, symptoms of one of the earliest known cases of the monkeypox virus are shown on a patient’s hand on May 27, 2003. The CDC has stated that monkeypox viral illness, which l thought to be spread by prairie dogs, has been detected in the Americas for the first time with approximately 20 cases reported in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.

Although monkeypox disease is quite rare, medical researchers have stated that this infection can lead to serious illnesses.

Now a new case has been seen in England and the patient had recently traveled from Nigeria.

According to the latest report from News TV, PHS has decided to work with the UK. The Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is carrying out contact tracing for the latest case of monkeypox.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on June 7 that the viral disease monkeypox, thought to be spread by prairie dogs, was first detected in the Americas with around 20 cases reported in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.

“Public Health Scotland is liaising with the UK Health Safety Agency for contact tracing of a small number of people linked to the monkeypox case identified in England,” a PHS spokesperson said.

The UKHSA has announced that it is working with the National Health Service (NHS) to identify people who have been in close contact with the infected person.

One of their efforts so far is to reach out to people who traveled with the infected person when they visited the UK.

UKHSA’s Director of Clinical and Emerging Infections, Dr Colin Brown, explained that they and the National Health Service have well-established infection control procedures.

With their effective health methods, Dr. Brown said they can treat infectious diseases more effectively.

Symptoms of Monkey Pox

Although monkeypox disease is not easily spread, it is still important to be cautious as health experts identify more infections.

The CDC has provided the symptoms people should watch out for to make sure the deadly disease is not infecting them. Here are a few:

  • Muscle pain
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Chills Exhaustion
  • Back ache
