IPL 2021: I’m surprised Dwayne Bravo is part of the CSK team: Sanjay Manjrekar
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar was ‘surprised’ after the Chennai Super Kings chose Dwayne Bravo for their game against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in what was the first game of the second leg of the IPL 2021 and 30e match of the whole tournament.
Manjrekar felt that Bravo hasn’t played much lately, especially in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2021). He led the Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots to their first Caribbean Premier League title, Bravo completed 145 races and selected 8 wickets in the tournament.
He missed a few games due to injury and upon his return Bravo no longer played in the tournament. Even when he bowled, his 9.49 save turned out to be the most expensive among the Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots roster.
Surprised CSK chose Dwayne Bravo despite clouds over his full fitness: Sanjay Manjrekar
Sanjay Manjrekar therefore believed that Bravo should not have been chosen by the Chennai Super Kings for this important meeting, as he did not appear to be in great shape. Instead, he felt that looking at the greenish surface, CSK should have gone for Lungi Ngidi over the 39-year-old all-rounder.
“They looked at the surface and believed that Hazlewood would benefit more than someone like Lungi Ngidi. I think it’s a good call. I’m surprised Bravo is on the team as I’ve heard he might be having bowling issues. I am surprised that CSK chose him despite the clouds over his complete physical form ”, Manjrekar was quoted in ESPNCricinfo.
“Excellent news for CSK that Faf du Plessis is in good shape because his groin injury was a bit worrying” Manjrekar added after South African Faf du Plessis was named to CSK XI.
The South African opener enjoyed a brilliant CPL 2021, although he suffered a groin injury while captaining the Saint Lucia Kings in CPL and missed a few games. In nine CPL games, the former South African skipper scored 277 points with an average of 34.62 and a strike rate of 143.52.
CSK struck first after winning the draw and thanks to 88 * from Ruturaj Gaikwad and contributions from Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo, made 156/6 in 20 overs. Du Plessis and Moeen Ali did ducks, while Suresh Raina did 4 and MS Dhoni did 3 runs.
