MANILA, Philippines – Contact details for S&R buyers “may have been compromised” in a cyberattack on the membership buying club.

Although it admitted that some contact information may have been obtained during the breach, S&R said in a statement on Wednesday that all of its members’ credit card and other financial information is “safe and secure” because they are encrypted.

“Limited membership data, which is limited to contact information, may have been compromised,” S&R said.

S&R added that they were taking the attack “very seriously” and had already reported it to the National Privacy Commission.

The privacy organization, for its part, said S&R submitted a breach report on November 15. “We are evaluating said report and will require submission of compliance documents,” an NPC representative told reporters.

The new data breach follows the AFN’s investigation into the alleged leak that affected the Foreign Ministry’s passport tracking system, which potentially exposed sensitive data of passport applicants.

The NPC has also just summoned banks, telecom operators and e-commerce companies to explain their measures to tackle smishing or phishing via mobile text messaging, amid a recent increase in spam messages in the world. country, which is said to be instigated by a global crime syndicate. – Xave Gregorio
