Contact center company Echo-U creates 400 jobs at two sites in the North East

A business in the Northeast has created 400 new jobs after benefiting from an increase in online retailing during the pandemic.

Customer Contact Company Echo-U has been operating for over 20 years from its head office in Newcastle and a second location in Bournemouth, together employing over 500 people.

The company – which counts DPD, JD Sports, First Direct, Sage and Parkdean Resorts among its clients – has now opened an office in Middlesbrough, with 150 jobs created.

He also hopes to add 250 more to his Newcastle squad.

The new roles have followed the growth of existing customers, particularly in the online retail and parcel delivery industries, as the pandemic accelerated existing trends towards digital retail.

Echo-U co-founder David Blakey said: “As a native of the North East, I am proud to be able to play a role in creating 400 new jobs for our region. It is an exciting time to be a part of Echo-U and we all look forward to the opportunities and successes this expansion will bring.

Echo-U recently opened an office on Gosford Street in Middlesbrough, in the city’s Boho Zero neighborhood. He’s hiring 150 new hires, but says he has room for further growth in the city.

The company was established in 2001 by Mr. Blakey and Diana Bourke, providing customer contact solutions through inbound and outbound call centers, social media and online chat channels.

It expanded its office on the Newcastle Quayside in 2017, when it also opened a site in Bournemouth to provide a location closer to customers in London and the South East.

The company says it is looking for people who are “good communicators and love to help people,” and who should have basic computer and typing skills. He says he has good growth paths, with the majority of his managers starting out as customer service advisors.
