BT announces 150 new jobs in North Tyneside and refurbishment of multi-million pound contact center

More than 150 new jobs are on their way to BT’s base in North Tyneside after the telecommunications giant announced a major overhaul of its second contact center in the North East.

BT Group announces that it will launch the recruiting campaign in tandem with a multi-million pound refurbishment of its base in Cobalt Business Park, North Tyneside.

The company said the decision to create the new full-time contact center roles for EE – which is part of the BT Group – demonstrates its continued commitment to the region.

The current Cobalt building on Silver Fox Way will be undergoing a renovation to modernize it with state-of-the-art technology and facilities.

When completed, it will become the largest consumer contact center in the BT Group domain, creating a workplace for around 1,500 EE colleagues.

BT bought mobile operator EE in a deal worth £ 12.5 billion six years ago, securing approval of the deal from the competition regulator a year later .

The announcement follows the recent multi-million pound refurbishment of the company’s contact center in Gosforth, which led to the creation of an indoor putting green, game consoles, cafe and a restaurant.

The renovation of the building, which is due to start in January 2022 and end in fall 2022, was designed with the help of colleagues at BT.

It will include facilities and services such as full height windows offering natural light, cafes and restaurants, as well as flexible workspaces and collaboration areas. It will also include relaxation and refreshment areas and a playground.

North Tyneside office is the latest key location to be unveiled in the UK as part of BT’s Better Workplace program, the largest such workplace improvement and consolidation program ever in the UK .

The investment will help transform the way BT operates, create efficiencies and enable it to better serve its customers.

As part of the Better Workplace program, BT is consolidating its presence in the United Kingdom in around 30 offices.

It has selected several other key base locations including Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Dundee and Ipswich.
